Using explorer and files with 3D Photo Browser

3D Photo Browser My Computer window is similar to Windows explorer. You can switch from one window to the others, using the tab key.

Generalities

Display My Computer window

Use one of the specified accesses to display the My Computer window. The tree has specific folders, which is particular to 3D Photo Browser. These folders give a quick access to albums, search results, CD-Rom catalogues, or files catalogues (if you choose to store your catalogues on a same directory through the preferences).

Delete selection

This function deletes the selected item in the active window. If active window is:

Deleted items (files, folders..) are moved to the recycled bin.

Rename
Version: Light / for Dig. Cam. / for 3D Users

This function renames the selected item in the active window. If active window is:

RenameFiles
Version: for Dig. Cam. / for 3D Users
menu access: Edit
keyboard access: Ctrl+F2

This tool renames a group of files according to a numbered series.

Folders

Open a folder
Version: Light / for Dig. Cam. / for 3D Users

To open a file and view its content:

Parent Folder
Version: Light / for Dig. Cam. / for 3D Users

This function opens the parent folder of the current folder.

Folders history
Version: Light / for Dig. Cam. / for 3D Users
menu access: Edit / Previous folder, Next folder
toolbar access: 'My computer'
keyboard access: Ctrl+Left arrow, Ctrl+Right arrow

Each time you open a folder, its path is added to the folders history. So, history contains path to the folder you recently browsed. It contains a previous folder and a next folder list.

To open a recently browsed folder :

The next folder list works in the same way. This list is activated only if you open a folder, using the previous folder list.

New Folder

This function creates a new folder in the active window. If active window is:

Moving a folder to another folder

To move a folder from the current directory to another directory:

Files

Viewing one or more files with 3D Photo Browser

To view an image, a video or a 3D file:

You can select several files. In this case, files are opened in a single window. Use the image list or the scene list to navigate from one file to the other.

Notes:

If the file is not recognized by 3D Photo Browser, the application associated to the file type is opened.
You can open several windows if you select several files. In order to reduce the number of windows on screen, windows are automatically closed when you open new files. If you don't want to recycle automatically windows,
look at Do not recycle viewers windows.

Each kind of files can be opened using a specific external application. For example, you might wish to open PSD file using Photoshop. The Open With command opens selected files using the application defined in the Extensions and Windows shell pannel. Open this pannel to set the application to use with each kind of file.

Opening a file using "Open With Application..."

This command allows you to open the selected files using an application selected among a list. Select files and use Open With Application then:

Note: Windows explorer Open with... menu is updated when you use Add and Remove buttons.

Playing an audio file

To play an audio file:

To stop listening the file, click on the Play audio file icon in the main toolbar, or select the Play audio file command from the menu.

Editing a file using the fast application access toolbar

You can edit files with the application you need using the fast application access toolbar. It appears when you move the mouse in the status bar, at the bottow of the 3D Photo Browser main window. This toolbar contains application you choosed in the Fast application access in the preferences. To edit a file with one of these application:

3D Photo Browser runs the application with the selected files in parameters. You can also run an application without selecting any files.

It is possible to call back an application ran this way by:

If you want to run a new window for the application, press the Control key and click on the application icon.

Editing a file in another application using Drag & Drop

In order to edit a file, select thumbnails and drop them into the window of the application you want, just as you do with the Windows explorer.

Moving a file to another directory

To move a file from the current directory to another directory:

Files information associated to thumbnails are kept when you move, copy or duplicate files from a directory to another one.

Associated files
Version: Light / for Dig. Cam. / for 3D Users

Audio files and images are associated when they share the same name (i.e. example.wav and example.jpg). When files are associated, if you perform an action on one file (copy/delete/rename), 3D Photo Browser asks you to perform the same action on the other file.

Autres

Display Directory Size
Version: for Dig. Cam. / for 3D Users

This command displays the directory sizes in My computer tree. This is very useful for cleaning your hard disk as you see which directories contains large files.

Once you select the command, 3D Photo Browser analyzes your hard disk in a background task. The size of each directory is displayed gradually next directory names. This size includes the cumulated size of the directory and its sub directories.

Note: This function can slow down the software execution. Deactivate this feature when you don't need the size information any more.
