This function resizes image.It enlarges or shrinks its size vertically and/or horizontally. Keep in mind that changing pixel dimensions affects not only the size of an image on-screen but also its image quality.

Width Width, in pixel, of the resized image. Default value is the current image width.
Use a greater value to enlarge image horizontally. Smaller value shrinks it.

Height

Height, in pixel, of the resized image. Default value is the current image height.
Use a greater value to enlarge image vertically. Smaller value shrinks it.
Constrain proportions
Check Constrain proportions if you want to keep image proportions. In this case Width and Height are automatically updated when you modify values to keep width/height ratio.

Uncheck this option if you want to compress or dilate image vertically or horizontally depending on the value you enter in the Width and Height fields.
Ratio

This field is available only when Constrain proportions is checked. This value is the ratio between new image size and current image size.
50 % reduces image size by 2 in width and height.
200 % enlarges image by 2 in width and height.

Canvas Size

Canvas size command adds or removes space around the image. You can also crop the image by entering dimensions for the canvas size, which are smaller than the original one.

New width Width, in pixels, of the canvas size. Default value is set to the current width of the image.
A greater value increases the canvas size horizontally. A smaller one crops the image and reduces the canvas size.

New height

Height, in pixels, of the canvas size. Default value is set to the current height of the image.
A greater value increases the canvas size vertically. A smaller one crops the image and reduces the canvas size.
Image position Select one of 9 the squares to set the position of the current image in the new canvas size.
Background color Select the color to use for the new area of the canvas size.
Click on the color picker to choose a color on the screen or, click on the color button to display the color selector dialog box.

Displayed only in a batch processing context

When the canvas size dimensions are smaller then the original image dimensions:

  • Image is cropped if this option is checked.
  • Image is not modified if this option is unchecked.
Use the top left pixel as background color

Displayed only in a batch processing context

Override the background color setting. Use the color of the top left pixel as the background color instead.

Crop

This functions crops the image and keeps only the part inside a frame you define with the mouse :

Press the O key at any time to open the Crop dialog. It shows clearly the position and the size of the crop frame.

Coordinates in pixel

Select the unit used for X, Y, Width, Height.
Coordinates in percentages
mode is useful when you crop from a batch command. It allows to enter coordinates, which remain valid whatever the image's size.
X X position, in pixel or percentage, of the frame corner.
Y Y position, in pixel or percentage, of the frame corner.
Width Width, in pixel or percentage, of the frame.

Height

Height, in pixel or percentage, of the frame corner.
Constrain proportions
Check Constrain proportion to keep Width / Height proportion, when resizing the frame.
When this checkbox is not checked, you can resize the crop frame without any constraint.

Note: When file has the JPEG format and no modification, with another function, has been done to it, viewer asks you for a lossless crop.
This kind of cropping keep image quality because is not JPEG compressed again. File is directly modified on the hard disk, you don't need to save it.
However, as Lossless crop is not undoable, a dialog box asks you if you want to perform a lossless crop or standard crop.

Automatic Crop

This function crops image by removing borders which have a plain color.

Select the cropping mode

When Crop plain color borders is selected, plains colors borders are removed. Colors can be different on each border.

When
Crop borders which have the specified color is selected, only borders which have the selected color are removed. Click on the color picker to choose a color on the screen or, click on the color button to display the color selector dialog box.

Use current layer to determine crop size

Use all layers to determine crop size

As cropping changes image size it can be useful to beware of layers to determine crop size. Using Use all layers to determine crop size a crop rectangle is find on each layer. Final cropping size has the size of the smallest rectangle containing rectangles found on each layer. Doing this way, you are sure that no useful details are lost.

Using Use current layer to determine crop size, crop size is computed only using the current layer. Plains colors borders of the current layer are removed but useful details on others layers might be removed.

Undo

This function undoes modifications that previously occurred on image.

Redo

keyboard access: Ctrl + Y

This function redoes modifications that has been previously undoes. It is enabled only if you use "Undo" before.
