An user ask a question about the way to have more control on thumbnails:
You may prefer something like that:
With 3DBrowser, you can control accurately the way thumbnails are generated on each file.
You'll find the different way to control thumbnail in the 3D Viewer, Tools menu :
Here is some explanation about these commands:
With certain files, the default 3DBrowser POV is not interesting:Some 3D thumbnails are useless due to the base of the object facing forward in the POV of the rendered thumbnail.
Is there a fix for this?
If not my feature request would be a simple right-click option on the thumnail to rotate thumbnail 90 degrees in X or Y.

Here is some explanation about these commands:
- Defines as Specific Point of View
Adjust the POV of the current scene as you want, and select this command.
The thumbnails of the catalogue will be updated as well as Windows Explorer thumbnail. - Remove Specific Point of VIew
This deletes a specific POV if any. The thumbnails will be recomputed using a default POV. - Defines as Default Catalog Point of View /Remove Default Catalog Point Of View
The scene POV is used for all thumbnails of the catalog.
This POV of view can be removed if it has been previously defined. - Defines Default Catalog Point of View for *.EXT / Remove .EXT Default Point Of View
The scene POV is used for all file that have the current file extension (ie FBX)
This POV for the given extension can be removed if it has been previously defined. - Define as Default Global Point of View / Remove Default Global Point Of View
The scene POV is used for computing thumbnails for any files
This global POV can be removed if it has been previously defined. In that case a front point of view is used.
Note that there is a hierarchical order in the way 3DBrowser chooses the POV for a given file:
- Specific Point of View
- Catalog Point of View
- File extension Point of View
- Global Point of View
- Front Point of View
