Polygon Cruncher Crash on Vista!

I've installed Polygon Cruncher for Max 2008 64bit on my new Vista machine and every time I run the plugin it crashes Max completely. I've also installed the vcredist_x64.exe that was recommended to install on the mootools website but it still crashes Max every time. Does anybody know what my problem might be? I've tried contacting the support several times with no response.

Thanks!
sulz.

Hello,

Do you setup the latest release (Polygon Cruncher 7.63).
Some fixes has been added during setup.

Let me know if you are using the correct plugin.

Thanks you!
Manuel

I do have the latest polygon cruncher. I've re-installed it and am still getting the crash.

I have PolygonCruncher 7.63
I've installed the vcredist_x64.exe
I'm running Windows Vista 64bit
I'm running Max 2008 64bit
Quad core Xeon processors w/ 8 gigs of ram

and it crashes every time.

I'm really getting frustrated as this worked fine on my old XP machine.

Thanks,
Chris

Hello,

I made some tests here on a single core computer running Vista x64 bits and 3DS Max 2008 x64 bits?
There is no problem. 3DS Max 2008 load with no trouble and Polygon Cruncher runs normally.

Please could you answer to the following:

- When does the plugin crashes:
When loading 3DS Max
When selection Polygon Cruncher in the utility list
When the Polygon Cruncher windows opens
When optimizing with Polygon Cruncher
When sending back the mesh in 3DS Max using the apply button

- Does the plugin crashes when optimizing a simple mesh (ie a sphere)?

Thanks for your answers,
Manuel

Hello Manuel,

I typed all this stuff into the support tab on the website a while ago, but I'll re-type it here again.

to reproduce this crash here's what I do.

I've installed Polygon Cruncher.
I've installed the vcredit64.exe recommended by the website.
I load up Max 2008 64bit.
I can access the Polygon Cruncher tab in the utilities menu with no problems, its only when I select any option in there from Batch Optimization to Optimize selected that it crashes. It will crash on simple spheres or complex editable poly objects, it doesn't matter.

thanks for the help.
Chris

Chris,

Thanks for these precision.
This is important to know that the problem occurs in the optimization module.

I just made some test on Vista x64 bits / 3Ds Max 2008 x64 bits and had no trouble even in the optimization panel.
I am able to optimize a whole folder which contains several 3DS Max files.

So I guess that the problem is due to a conflict. Do you have any special other plugin setup on 3DS Max 2008?
If so, this could be interesting to run in a minimal configuration and check if Polygon Cruncher still crashes.
If you try this, thanks to let me know if you succeed in running Polygon Cruncher.

I also wonder if the problem is not due to your Quad core configuration?

I have actually no other report for such problem on Windows Vista. Anyway, I'll be watching carefully any reports that might be related.

Thanks,
Manuel
