3DB v15 - Texture Link help

Post by sadicus » Mon Jan 02, 2023 11:57 pm

How to insure Texture Linking?
After re-link all textures> Save as FBX the model turns black and textures have to be relinked.
also did not find a way to get FBX file Embed the texture to work.
what is the correct way to get textures to load?
how to edit the texture name? Even though the texture is relinked, the filename do not match.
~ thanks

Hello,
You send us your mesh (used for debugging purpose only) to check what can occur.
Apparently this has been corrected in the upcoming version, but it would be better to check it.

Yours,
Manuel

Thanks for providing the file to understand what occurs.

In this file, all textures point to png files and path are hard coded. For example you have a texture that point to:
H:\gumroad\ancient architecture\ziggurat textures\zigurat_1_mat_BaseColor.png
This textures cannot be found... but a similar textures exists in a relative folder .\Textures\ with a different extension (jpg instead png).

Good news !

We just add a mechanism that will look for a texture file with the same name but with different extension when the texture is missing.
So now it will be possible to retrieve materials automatically, even if the texture path is not the kind that makes our lives easier.

Tip !
FYI, you can add in the 3D preferences a texture directory with a relative texture path.
If you add "./textures/" in the texture folder list, then when a texture is missing, 3DBrowser will look any time in the relative folder ./Textures/. This path might be contained in the scene path folder.
This is a nice way to find automatically the missing textures in predefined location.
We frequently files that are badly converted but any times in the same way.
This is common that Textures/ folder is used for storing the textures, but without taking care of updating the material texture path, leading to a missing texture issue in most of software.

Info !
FYI, in the next release PBR materials are also supported.

So, we have now to wait for the next release, which will be 3DBrowser16!

Thanks for your help, the file give us the idea to improve the texture file mechanism.
