Hello Mootools team,
When opening any 3D browser window.
It will create a file contents.obv.
It's uncomfortable.
How to not create it?
Thank you!

Re: About contents.obv catalogue file

Post by mootools » Thu Nov 03, 2022 6:41 pm

Contents.obv file is created in each folder containing files recognized by 3DBrowser.
contents.obv contains the precomputed thumbnails, keywords, description information and much more information.

You might be disturbed to find these file in your folders and this is why there is several option to control the way they are generated.
  • Open the menu Edit > Preferences (Alt+P)
  • Select Catalogs tab

The first choice allows to never save contents.obv files. The disadvantage is that your thumbnails will be recomputed every time you browse the folder.
For light file this the thumbnail time generation can be negligible, but it may impact your browsing performance if you are dealing with larger files.

The second choice is the default one. The contents.obv file is saved in every folder containing file recognized by 3DBrowser. The advantage is that the thumbnails are kept if you move the folder or if you rename it.

The last choice allows to gather contents.obv file in a specific directory which is located under %PROGRAMDATA%\Mootools\3DBrowser 15\Catalogs

There is also two options that allows to create contents.obv files in hidden mode which is confortable as you'll not see them in the Windows explorer (except if you decide to modify explorer default settings). However, if you delete a folder with a contents.obv hidden file, Windows will display a message about the contents.obv file deletion.

Another option allows to add contents.obv file in your zip files. Indeed 3DBrowser allows to generate thumbnails and add description and keywords for file located in an archive.
Check that option, 3DBrowser will add a contents.obv file in the archive any time it is required, depending on the whole set of options describe here.

By default 3DBrowser save the thumbnails for all the recognized file and also additional information you may enter for all other files.
For example, if you add some keywords to a text file, this information will be saved in a contents.obv file at the location you define above.

The second choice of this list allows to save thumbnails and information only for the recognized file - which means the file that are thumbnailable.
With this setting, if you add some keywords to a text file, this information will be lost and will not be saved to the contents.obv file.

The third choice restricts the thumbnails and information saving to image file only. This means that thumbnails for 3D files will be regenerated each time you browse a folder.

The last choice restricts the thumbnails and information saving to 3D file only. This means that thumbnails for image files will be regenerated each time you browse a folder.
