Serial number deactivation

Serial number deactivation is "removing the assignment" of a serial number from the subject computer to make it available for use on another computer. When the serial number is deactivated, it is not removed from the computer but the software is locked.

NO PERSONAL INFORMATION IS TRANSMITTED DURING SERIAL NUMBER ACTIVATION

To deactivate a serial number:

1. From the Help menu, select Deactivate

Serial number deactivation can be done either online or manually.

Deactivate online

Deactivating online is a single-step process

To deactivate online:

1. Open an internet connection
2. Click Deactivate online...

When deactivation is complete, the Activate option in the Help menu becomes available.

Note: If the computer is on a network protected by a firewall that prevents outside internet access, or if an open network connection is not available, manual deactivation is required.

Deactivate manually

Manual deactivation creates an internet shortcut to connect to the serial number database. Use this shortcut when either an internet connection is available or the shortcut is put on a computer that has an internet connection.

When the shortcut connects to the serial number database it makes the serial number available to be used on another computer.

To deactivate manually:

Manual deactivation is a two step process.

1. Click Create shortcut
2. When the Deactivate shortcut is on a computer with an internet connection, run the shortcut

Note: The software is deactivated for the subject computer immediately when the Create Shortcut is clicked even though it has not yet been modified on the serial number database.
