This function converts image in 256 colors (or less) mode. Such conversion can be useful to reduce the image file size.
The view displays the conversion result depending on the followings options:
Exact
palette, adaptative palette otherwise Adaptative palette |
When image
has less than 256 colors, it's possible to perfom an exact conversion. Resulting
image is strictly the same as initial image. Created palette has the same
color number than the image. When the conversion can't be exact, the palette must be adaptative. Colors found are the one which give the better visual aspect. If you want to have a particular number of color, select Adaptative palette. The resulting palette will have the exact number of colors you entered, even if an exact palette can be found for the image. You'll find the number of colors of the initial image in the bottom of the dialog. |
Bits per pixel |
This menu
allows you to select the bits number used for storing a pixel value. This
modify the number of colors for the conversion. Colors number is egal to 2^bits per pixel (ie. 2^3 bits = 8 colors). |
Colors |
Enter the
number of color you want for the indexed image. Bits per pixel is adjusted depending on the number you enter in this field. |
No
dithering |
Dithering simulates
more colors than colors really displayed in the image. |
Note : when you choose a 2 colors conversion, resulting colors can't be different than black and white. To perform a black and white conversion, use "Monochrome" function.
